Children's Society  
Hawthorn students raised over $350 for the Singapore Children’s Society. Our honour students wrote and gave a play about how we raised the money, and the Society spoke about the good work they do. It’s great to have students get involved in the community!

Guest Speakers  

Talk by Mr. Thang Le

In November, many Hawthorn students enjoyed a talk by Mr. Thang Le, a former Vietnamese refugee camp dweller, who has had a successful career in the United States, and now lives with his family in Singapore. Thang Le imparted to students his own inspiring story, and told them how they, too, can overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to get what they want. Talk by Mr. Ramón Gonzalez

Mr. Ramón Gonzalez, Director of Operations for Copeland Corporation (Singapore), gave a great talk to the entire school in December. Mr. Gonzalez, a native of Venezuela, spoke about his own struggles with learning the English language, the importance of continually improving oneself, and how to balance work and family. The entire school loved it.

Bollywood Dance

Bryan Kanna. a trained Bollywood dancer, got students moving after his Bollywood lecture / film viewing

Talk by Dr Madanmohan Rao

In June, Hawthorn’s intermediate and advanced students were lucky to hear a lecture by Dr Madanmohan Rao, a leading consultant in knowledge management digital technology; Dr Rao is also the author of many books, including Knowledge Management Tools and Techniques and Asia Unplugged: The Wireless and Mobile Media Boom in the Asia Pacific. Dr Rao spoke about the social impact of the cell phone upon Asia.
