INDEPENDENT LEARNING CENTRE (ILC)

The ILC is a self-access study
area containing a variety of resources to assist students in developing
their competence in English. The ILC forms an important part of the program
for full time students who spend several periods each week using the ILC
resources. These resources include print, audio and computer materials,
which assist students in practicing writing, reading and listening skills
at all levels of English. IELTS practice material is also available for
students to use.
The ILC environment encourages students to take responsibility for their
own learning progress, a characteristic that is especially important for
those planning further study at a University.
The designated ILC time provides students with an opportunity to focus
on the skills that need attention, and allows them time to plan and discuss
homework activities with their classmates. It is one of the key features
of the Hawthorn Language School that greatly enhances a student's learning
experience.
In addition to class times, the ILC is open Monday to Friday until 5 pm.
It is also open during term breaks to any enrolled students.
