Preparatory Course for IELTS

TMC is the place where I was sent to take a General English course by our local government. After 6 months, I had successfully completed 2 levels of English Course from EAP to IELTS. I have been fortunate to have two great teachers. They are Presley and Ashley. The former is American, the later is British. So I had a great chance to improve my English knowledge in American and British style.

All that I can say, they are both knowledgeable and helpful. I consider them both as my teacher and my friends. I highly appreciate all their effort and enthusiasm they had devoted to us. The time has gone so quickly, but it is natural, we have to be back to our daily work (routines). It is an unforgettable time, I will miss this beautiful island country as much as I love my teachers.

Hawthorn Language School offers a 10 week, full-time IELTS class that helps students prepare for the IELTS exam.
 
Basic Information:
  • You must have the equivalent of a 5.5 on the IELTS, or a year’s full-time study at an English-language, tertiary-level educational institution. Having successfully completed Hawthorn’s 10-week EAP (advanced English) level is also a viable prerequisite. A placement test will be given to all interested IELTS students. If you do not receive an acceptable score, you should take the appropriate Certificate in English courses at Hawthorn Language School. You will not be admitted into this IELTS prep course without these necessary prerequisites.
  • The course follows the Hawthorn Language School schedule: 5 hours a day (9:00–3:30 Monday–Friday, with breaks and lunch), 5 days a week. the course covers 250 hours.
  • You will be given a mock IELTS exam on the first day of class so you can see in which areas you need improvement. You will also be given a mock IELTS exam during the last week of classes to see how much you have improved.
  • Like the other Hawthorn English classes, we offer you a variety of activities outside the textbook: listening, field trips, computer activities, and guest speakers. You will be regularly assessed on your skills.
  • Our classes will always have twenty students or less.
  • The Independent Learning Centre is open from Monday to Friday and during the term breaks. Students are encouraged to visit the centre for additional study and reseach. The IELTS lecturer will assist students in how best to utilize the centre. We have many IELTS activities for students to use there.
  • As this is a preparatory class, there is not a graded component, nor a certificate of achievement.  If desired, students will be awarded a certificate of participation.

Entry Requirement

Age: At least 16 years old

Academic Qualification:

 Year 12 or equivalent qualification

English Proficiency:

Must have one of the following:

  • Satisfactory result in TMC English Placement Test (pass at a level higher than English for Academic Purpose)
  • Pass Hawthorn Language School English for Academic Purposes level
  • IELTS Score of 5.5
